Here is the short version of what this is. Secretly Fancy is the thing I have been building, quietly and then less quietly, since 2009. The name came from a joke with college friends. A word we used for anything that was better than it looked, cooler than it let on. It stuck because it was true about a lot of things, including, occasionally, me.
This is a newsletter about taste without the gatekeeping. I am serious about style and I have a loose grip on almost everything else, and I have come to think that is the only honest way to be serious about anything.
Here is what you can expect from me... The designer and where I found them. The flowers and the trick to making them last past Thursday. The dress and the slightly humiliating story of buying it. Advice you did not ask for and will be glad you got. Dinners worth getting dressed for, and the occasional dispatch from one. I am not going to narrow this down to a single lane, because I have never lived in a single lane and I am not about to start performing a smaller life for an algorithm.
The only thing I promise is that I will always tell you where I got it. I do not believe taste is a secret worth keeping. A rising tide, and all of that.
Happy Finding!
